I suspect the increased traffic has pushed the fish to hang elsewhere. I dont know if its gone up due to it being close to high season or because there are more people visiting it. There have been regular buses plying that route for some time. they all say that for locals, the price difference is not a discount but simply a different level of comfort. There is a colectivo that departs daily from Tulum town and goes to a pier just beyond the Sian Kaan visitor center, where it meets with a boat. But if youre going to wear sunscreen, ensure that its biodegradable sunscreen and does NOT contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, like this Alba Botanic SPF 45 found on Amazon. My husband and I were in Playa in December of 2016 but didnt have time to explore Sian Kaan. After the tower, the Canan-Ha trail soon opens up to a dirt road, where youll clearly see the lagoon and boat docks. Yes, it is an expense but it sets us free to explore.
