Maybe if you applied white then gray then black, overlapping as you go then you just go over the top with the gold and dont have to worry about the tone of the gold changing. I know this is years later, but just in case you see this and werent able to get the desired effect I wouldnt use spray paint to do a gradient I would use a different kinda paint and use a sponge brush so you can give it a faded look and youd have better control of how thick of a layer you do and Id put the most coats on the very bottom and maybeee (if you still dont get the exact look youre after) stipple on a think layer of slightly darker paint on the very bottom. No sanding or prep required. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! But it works. I have used it many times and I am always sorry. I suggest making a decision depending on the look of your faucets. These are definitely matte gold and pretty true to their cap and would be great for applications where you are looking for a matte gold. I think the Rustoleum is the gold metal winner I like the Design Master it just seems flat with a lot of yellow/green. I think I have to go with Rustoleum.
